Kent Mango
Kent is widely considered the best mango variety available in Western supermarkets. Developed in Florida in the 1940s from a Brooks seedling, Kent offers what Tommy Atkins cannot — genuine flavor. Large, juicy, fiber-free, and reliably sweet, Kent is the mango that converted many Westerners into mango lovers. It is now grown extensively in Mexico, Peru, Ecuador, and Brazil for the US and European markets.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Kent a good mango?
Kent is the best widely available supermarket mango. It has good sweetness (Brix 14-16), zero fiber, juicy flesh, and a pleasant tropical flavor. It is significantly better than Tommy Atkins. However, it does not match the sweetness or complexity of Pakistani Chaunsa (20-22 Brix) or Sindhri (22-24 Brix).
How do I pick a ripe Kent mango?
Do NOT judge Kent by color — it stays mostly green even when ripe. Use the squeeze test (should give slightly like a ripe avocado) and the smell test (should be fragrant at the stem). Kent that is soft and fragrant at the store is ready to eat.
